I was out for a hike and walked to get lunch one afternoon this Autumn.
There are some days where I go out for lunch on weekends and treat myself to rich foods I don’t have all the time and rather than berate myself for having them or feel awful about how many calories they contain, I forego driving to the restaurant and instead take the long way.
On this particular walk I was treated to rich shades of red, orange and yellow. It was an absolute feast for the eyes and I couldn’t help but feel so much gratitude for the luxury that this life afforded me. How amazing is it that I can walk to get a delicious meal that costs over twenty dollars for one person, with the freedom to dress how I want and listen to music, taking pictures along the way? My mind kept tossing around these ideas with each step.
The imprint made me feel so much happiness at being able to say that I’m from Canada and I laughed a little bit at how ridiculous the sight may have been from the outside looking in- some stranger staring at pavement laughing like it was the funniest thing ever.
Right out front of the restaurant, I found a heart made from concrete pieces in the parking lot and felt like the Universe was smiling right alongside me.
We have so many freedoms and it’s important for us to remember that in that, we have the freedom to help others and to be peace in the world around us; That’s what this heart meant for me.
